Teaching :
Providing high-quality education and training in agricultural economics, agribusiness management, agricultural finance and agricultural marketing.
Research :
Conducting applied and policy research on agricultural economics, farm management, rural development, agribusiness and marketing strategies. Identifying and addressing emerging issues related to the agricultural economy including sustainable agriculture, market integration, value addition and agricultural finance.
Extension :
Offering and conducting training programs, workshops and seminars for farmers, agripreneurs and stakeholders on agribusiness development, marketing strategies and financial management. Collaborating with government agencies and private sector actors to promote agribusiness and entrepreneurial development in agriculture.
The flagship areas:
- Agricultural Marketing and Value Chain Development: Enhancing agricultural value chains by promoting efficient marketing strategies, post-harvest management and market linkages. Studying market structure, conduct and performance of different agricultural commodities in Jammu and Kashmir. Promoting export-oriented agribusiness and market intelligence systems.
- Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship Development: Encouraging entrepreneurial skills among students, youth and farmers through startup incubation programs, business planning and agripreneurship. Promoting agribusiness opportunities in sectors such as food processing, organic farming, agri-tourism and rural enterprises.
- Agricultural Finance and Risk Management: Analyzing agricultural credit systems and financial institutions for improved access to finance for farmers and agribusiness entrepreneurs. Conducting studies on risk management tools like crop insurance, price stabilization mechanisms and weather-based financial products.
- Farm Management and Production Economics: Conducting farm-level economic analysis to assess profitability, resource-use efficiency and farm-level decision-making. Promoting efficient farming practices to improve productivity, sustainability and income generation for smallholder farmers.
